January 2023 release
*In May 2010, the DHHS released the National Action Plan to Improve Health Literacy. I was honored to revise the clinical content of our flagship prescription products, reSET and
reSET-O, to align with National Health Literacy goals.
Problem:
The existing content used outdated and stigmatizing language, with many users failing to finish even the first lesson.
Readers report poor comprehension and boredom then fail to continue, negatively impacting long-term results for patients and revenue for the organization.
The product was previously unchanged due to the regulatory minefield of modifying FDA-authorized content.
Approach:
To reorganize and revise content, we needed to assess clinical necessity. As the Senior UX Writer and Content Strategy Lead, I collaborated with the Clinical Team to identify the concepts that make each lesson clinically effective, note unnecessary repetition, and remove clutter.
With internal research on adult learning success factors as a point of reference, I organized the information architecture. My goals were to use multiple modalities to deliver the clinical concepts logically and with relevant examples at or below a 7th-grade reading level.
Working within strict change guidelines, I meticulously documented any removal of non-essential concepts and retention of essential clinical concepts, ensuring the revisions are consistent with the initial FDA-authorized content.
